Dear B-Wellers
It all started with this window. It is a display for Whole Foods in Kensington, London. I stopped, looked and felt healthy. I had an extra skip in my walk that day as I was feeling good and it has been awhile since I felt like that.
Maybe I should not have taken the picture as I think my enthusiasm got the better of me. Yesterday, I signed a nine month commitment to a weight management programme at our local health club. When they passed over the food diary I knew I was doomed. I have to weigh my food !
I have never tried a weight programme as I know that healthy eating and exercise usually does the trick. Times are changing as they say...the big M is lurking and I can feel it. I very rarely get sick. Mr. H says I have the strongest constitution of anyone he knows. When I was down and out with the flu last month he was nervous...I was nervous. All is fine but it made me realise that I can not take my health for granted. My family has a history of heart disease and my cholesterol runs amuck when my weight creeps up. I need to keep an eye on things. So here I sit having had a 75g bowl of muesli with 50g of blueberries and 125g cup of coffee. Just having to write in that book is sure to knock off a few kilos. Jeez Louise...I dread having to weigh that glass of wine this evening.
Thinking good health in this corner of the world :)
Any tips for me?? ( besides not having that glass of wine!)

I did laugh when I got to the part about the weighing of the wine...
I have never done any formal weight reduction plan...and I should....so I am no help at all...you are the one who will be helping me...report all your successes Jeanne!
I've never weighed my food, but I've found that writing it down helps. It's rather amazing the amount of food we consume without thinking about it. Also, lots of water and lots of sleep! And a big white furry dog to run with!!
tennis or swimming every day. weight creeps on so easily at this age.
Journaling your food absolutely works. If you have to write it down, you think twice about eating it - especially if someone ELSE will be reading the diary. Unfortunately, writing it down gets really old after a very short time.
Oh, I should have told you that the 30-35 pounds I am currently shedding have been shed several times in the past (twice with Weight Watchers and once with Atkins) and this time I am actually changing my lifestyle instead of following a meal plan.
I am using www.MyFitnessPal.com. It provides an on-line diary with a huge built-in database that makes it fairly easy to figure out how many calories you are conuming - altho you do still have to weigh or measure everything. Then they add back the calories you "earn" by exercising.
It says to me - in capital letters - "move more, eat more." You might want to check it out.
Good luck! I ain't ever easy!!
Oh Jeanne....both my sweet husband and I have also committed to a weight loss program...cross your fingers for us and we'll well do he same for you.
Hugs,
Jo
I have just committed to a month long detox...I don't
have to weigh my food...I just have to eliminate a lot of things! You know bread, pasta, caffeine, alcohol, today I purchased a coffee substitute...100% natural, made from chicory, roasted beets and something else...it is really good, alas no substitute for wine!
good luck Jeanne...I'll follow you along and let you know how I'm doing too!
Thanks Webb... I will definitely check it out. You are so right...you just have to keep moving and cut back. Simple but so hard :)
Jo...I will do!!
Victoria...would love to know how you get on. I have tried detox before and felt brilliant after. I love my coffee so you are so wise to find a healthy alternative.
I wonder if decaf counts? When I want to cut back on wine I find sparkling water does the trick. It somehow curbs my desire or just fills me up. I am sure there is probably something not healthy about that too :)
What I need is a substitute for chocolate! :)
