I have an idea....
The Brown Paper Book Club.
It started with a secret passion of mine.
When we lived in New Zealand, I joined
I spend many hours perusing the used book section,
looking for a little gem. Once I found the book for me,
I placed my order. A few days later, a brown paper parcel was
sitting in my post box. I loved the moment I opened the lid
on our post box and saw that little brown package waiting for me.
I treasure those books...
I always wonder whose hands the book passed in before me.
One of life's little mysteries.
So....now I am wondering, if maybe this
is something I could do with a few
kindred spirits in the blogging world.
A favourite book, something you spotted in a used book shop
that you think another might like, or perhaps a more organised approach.
I happen to be looking for a book...a well read book,
The Duchess of Bloomsbury Street by Helene Hanff.
I can not find it anywhere.

I am also after all books written by Virgina Woolf, of the Penguin variety.
I would be happy to return the favour with purchasing a book for another.
I haven't quite figured the rest out...but I love the idea
of brown paper packages tied up with string
making their way around the globe.
I welcome all suggestions and thoughts.
It only takes one or two...

Many copies of "The Duchess" available at www.abebooks.com -- one of the very best locations for finding used books. I love those brown wrappers as well, and discovered a book in your stack that I'm going to order from Abe right away as copies of it are scarce.
Oh Jeanne....I think this is the greatest idea......count me in if you make it happen.

Oh, do count me in, Jeanne! Absolutely. What a sterling idea. Love it ☺. J x
I'll play...how about before sending along, a few words in the way of how the book made you feel written inside the title page, dated and signed. That way, as the book continues on it's journey it will have a record of whose hands it has passed through and whose hearts it has touched.
Very intersting idea Jacqueline...I love it. We could pick one book or a few and send them on their journey. Love the idea of writing in our thoughts on the book. :)
Oh I love books too,
and one of my fave pastimes is to go around second hand bookstores and look for books to bring home and enjoy.
Your idea of a book club is brilliant!
Count me in!
Love this idea! And I would love to find those penguin copies of Virginia Woolf books!
I would love to join all of you! Wonderful idea!
It sounds very interesting Jeanne. I will follow with interest. Debbie
Count me in, this sounds like such a great idea. It reminds me of the movie with Anthony Hopkins and Ann Bancroft, where he is a bookseller in England and she ends up having a couple decade long correspondence with him as he send books to her from his shop. I love it.
I cannot wait to see how this works. I was just thinking today of posting on my blog to ask if anyone was interested in my books that I read and post on.
Keep us posted.
Lovely idea!! COunt me in if you get it figured out.
Count me to we have plenty of "alfarrabistas" ( second hand bookshops) in Lisboa!
